For my free inquiry project, I’ve chosen to learn how to do embroidery. This is something that I’ve been wanting to do for a few years now, but I’ve never had the time to do it. Making it something for class means that I will have time set aside for it every week, and it’s something that I think should be a relaxing experience as well, meaning that time every week will be a nice bit of time to just sit back and take a pause from the rest of my stress.

I think I’ll probably find it challenging, as I can’t even successfully sew a button onto a shirt, but it’s good to challenge myself in ways that aren’t just academic. This is something that, if I get good enough at, I can use as a unique gift for friends and family. I also find that I really enjoy hobbies that are artistic, but never have the motivation to stick with it, so I’m hoping that this is one that I can stick to.

I’ve already purchased a few kits to get myself started. Hopefully this will be a good starting point. I hope to eventually incorporate my other hobby, drawing, and use my own designs in my embroidery. I want to first get comfortable with the various stitches, though, that way I can better know when to use a certain stitch. It’s also great to learn a new hobby during a pandemic, apparently, and at least embroidery might keep me from going stir crazy!
